At the end of
The Hunger Games the Capitol is clearly furious with Peeta and Katniss. However, the Capitol has not done anything to either one of them to show their anger. Do you think the Capitol bought into their hopelessly in love excuse or do you think they are waiting until after the victor's tour to punish them?
This government is very corrupt and can pretty much do whatever it wants. Considering this, I do believe that the love plot between Katniss and Peeta will come back to bite them. The reason that they were able to defy the rules of the Hunger Games and of the Capitol was because the crowd loved the plot that they had created. Weather it was real or not did not matter. What mattered was that the crowd developed a sympathy for the two and to have the Capitol split them apart and ruin what they had would have put a negative image on the Capitol. In corrupt environments like this, revenge is always likely. I do not believe that the the government will sit by and let Katniss and Peeta live in peace. For their actions the Captiol will find a way to get revenge some day. They must only wait for the appropriate time when it is not outright uncalled for. I am not sure what the second book has in store but I strongly believe that Katniss and Peeta will come across obstacles because of the Capitol and their actions to stay alive.
