Do you think it was right of Katniss to fake her love to Peeta just to survive the Games? On one hand, she was a great help to him. There is no doubt in my mind that he would not have survived without her, for she nursed him back to health and saved him from Cato and the mutant creatures in the end, not to mention she found shelter and food for him. However, don't you think she could have found sponsors a different way than by leading him on? Or at least let him in on the secret so that he would not have been so shocked in the end when he found out she was really acting? Also do you think Peeta is over-reacting to the news, after all she did save his life.

I feel there was great means to what Katniss did. She did what she had to in order to survive. She knew the only way to get the supplies she needed was to make Haymitch happy. To do that she needed to play up the romance with Peeta. The whole time they were in the Hunger Games she thought that Peeta was playing the audience with his love for her. She had no idea that he had actually fallen in love with her. Everytime he kissed her or made a move she thought, "Wow, he's good at this." If Katniss had known that Peeta was really in love with her then it would have morally wrong for her to play him like she did.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I do not think that Peeta overreacted at all. He had fallen for Katniss and truly believed that she had too. They had made such a connection in the woods and the cave that it would break anyone's heart to find out the person they love doesn't love them back. Although, Peeta is greatful for all that Katniss had done. He did not lash out on her when he found out it was all fake. He simply walked away because he was dealing with a broken heart.
It may have been wrong of Katniss to lead on Peeta just for sponsors but it was what had to be done. Once the two realized that this plot can help them to survive, it was not necessary for Katniss to find another means of obtaining sponsors. It would not have been worth it for Katniss to abandon the plot and try another way just to avoid hurting the feelings of Peeta. It would have been a real problem if Katniss abandoned her act but then failed to gain any support. She would be out of support and out of having that trustful person to be with throughout the games. Katniss was only trying to play smart. And it is also safe to argue that she had no intentions of hurting Peeta in the first place. Like heaven said, Katniss felt that Peeta was just going along with it like she was. There was some misunderstanding between the two but that does not make it Katniss's fault.
ReplyDeleteWhat other way could she have gained sponsors? If anything, Katniss was lucky to have Peeta to pull off what they managed to do. Without him, her chances of survival would have been much less. Both of their chances would have been less.
