In the book Katniss can't help but notice how much differenet life in the capitol is. There always seems to be an abundance food, they have the latest gadets for every use and their lives seem effortless. Whereas at home she lives by the bear necessities just struggling to survive. Do you think the author uses these scenarios as a way to address the materialism present in our world?
different* gadgets* wow my spelling is bad.
ReplyDeleteI think that the author compares district 12 with the Capitol to show the differences between certain areas of our world and how the wealthier areas take all of their luxuries for granted, whereas in poorer places, the people would be happy with just a piece of bread. It makes you think about whether or not you really need all of the goods you own.
ReplyDeletethe author definitely uses the materialism in the capitol to highlight a major point: that everyone compare the struggles of Katniss as opposed to the struggles of a person from the capitol.
ReplyDeleteThe author is definitely trying to make a point by showing us the materialism in the capitol. t]Throughout the book Katniss compares the districts and the types of people who come from them. It is clear that some have it better than others. Katniss is unfortunate enough to have grown up in district 12 where a whole day is spent hunting for one meal. However, this gives Katniss a great advantage for the Hunger Games because it shows just how qualified she is. She has been hunting for so long is has become a part of her. She is an expert on survival unlike other tributes who have had everythign handed to them. By showing the materialism of the capitol. the author is showing how strong Katniss really is because she has been surviving without all of this.
disregard the first short paragraph haha...
ReplyDeleteI agree with Heaven when talking about how Katniss' harsh upbring essentially lead to her victory. On page 208 after coming up with the idea to blow up the Career's food supply Katniss reasons "That the Careers have been better fed growing up is actually to their disadvantage, because they don't know how to be hungry. Not the way Rue and I do." Now I do not think that Collins is trying to say we should not be well fed, however I think this comparison is to show how although wealth leads to an easier life, it also means you grow up a more sheltered life. This can essentially be a handicap in the long run.
